The Pain of Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia Treatment

It is characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain. It’s known as fibromyalgia, and for those who suffer with it, it is not a pleasant experience.  If you’re not sure, ask anyone who has it what it is like to live with this disease. Arizona Neurology Associates have seen this disease and have experienced it through our patients.

Symptoms of fibromyalgia include memory/mood issues, sleep issues, and fatigue. There is a lot of thinking in the medical community that the way your brain assesses brain signals is somehow amplified by fibromyalgia.  That's one of the reasons the pain of this disease is so bad.

This can all start after psychological stress, an infection, surgery, or some type of physical trauma. It occurs more often in women than men. The onset of it can be over time, with no obvious single event that set things in motion.

While there is no cure for fibromyalgia, Arizona Neurology Associates wants to make sure you know that there is help for this disease. There are techniques to control your symptoms such as reducing your stress, relaxation and exercise. All of these things will help alleviate this condition.  At Arizona Neurology Associates we can build your plan to alleviate this condition, and we would love to do just that.

It is understood that women are much more likely to develop fibromyalgia than are men. Many people who have fibromyalgia also have other indications, things like anxiety, depression, irritable bowel syndrome, blurry vision and temporomandibular joint disorders.

Because of our experience with treating this disease at Arizona Neurology Associates, we are able to educate our patients of the symptoms. They include fatigue, cognitive problems, pain that is widespread, possible pain or cramping in lower extremities, headaches and potentially feelings of despair or depression.

Arizona Neurology Associates do not know the causes, but it is generally held that Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can lead to fibromyalgia, illnesses may lead to it, and possibly genetics.  By experience we have learned that pain levels can increase over time as the brain becomes more sensitive to the pain, it develops a sort of memory that makes it more receptive to the pain.

Our passion, our focus at Arizona Neurology Associates, is for quality of life. We said that there is no known cure for this terrible disease. What we didn’t say is that there is no help. There is, and we can provide it. If you have tried others, and things just haven’t worked out, please call Arizona Neurology Associates. We’re heavily experienced, with a staff of doctors who have seen it, are up on the latest techniques, and who share information so that they can bring that experience to bear on your case of fibromyalgia.
